The Dance Mythos Series

Discover and broaden skills that individuate your dance and eventually lead to enhanced dynamic expression. Workshops are in three stages: Dance of Apollo (solo), Dance of Dionysus (group), and Dance of Eros (couple).

Dance of Apollo

Like the sun, Apollo dances alone. (S)he seeks the mysteries within personal dance and the better expression of self. Beginning with one's own moves and instincts, we work to reveal your own authentic solo movement.

Dance of Dionysus

For Dionysus, the god of ecstatic mysteries, the connected group ascends to places beyond the range of a collection of separate individuals. Through euphoric movement and joyous spirit, we explore group ecstasy and ritual.

Dance of Eros

We discover and enhance the sensual synapses between dancing individuals. Dancing as a couple, sometimes as a triad, each joining is unique, an improvisation using techniques developed from past experience in a new mix of form and fire.

Dance Mythos

For all the esoteric description, these workshops are designed for fun. We want a non-judgmental, easy-going experience for everyone. The purpose is for you personally to open new doors of expression, not to learn "steps" or to be scrutinized in any way. The music and the nurturing approach to exercises are there to engender a sense of freedom and possibility.

  • The Series

Each of the three stages uses a collection of non-intimidating dance and theater improvisational exercises to open the senses and to develop and broaden skills that lead toward a personal approach to a more articulate dance. The first stage concentrates on the individual (Apollo); the second, the group dynamic (Dionysus); and the third, on the couple interplay (Eros).

  • Requirements

Adults who are dancers at heart, have a sense of adventure, and want to explore the kinesthetics of sensual and artistic expression. Whether you are a highly trained professional dancer, or closeted boogie mover, there's always room to enhance your personal style, honesty of movement, and moment of expression.
  • Technique

Workshop "exercises" are a series of improvisational structures or dimensions that explore elements of attention for a dancer. For example, by examining how we personally relate to such things as rhythm, space, emotion, context of story or choreography, we find prompts for expanding our boundaries. We'll look at common dance dynamics for uncommon breakthroughs. Workshop music will be drawn from an eclectic blend of sources, the commonality being the kind of music that "makes" you dance!

  • Purpose

Many workshops purpose movement and body consciousness to look within for spiritual revelations about oneself. This is not that kind of process. This is a laboratory for dancers to look at their own dance instincts and improvisational resources. We look to enhance our own form of expression rather than develop specific dance moves or style. We keep an eye as to what your dance looks like, from a performance perspective as well as its honesty of expression.
